American Soul
What Are You Looking At? (Episode 1066)
March 5, 2019

Last week on American Soul, an earthquake which halted production of Soul Train was the backdrop for the episode. Don slipped further into his alter ego of “Don Cornelius, ruthless TV mogul” and he consummated his affair with Ilsa. The dancers went on strike for lack of pay and Don responded by assaulting their representative … twice. Tessa had a change of heart on her future plans and the Clarke family had an unexpected visitor from Sgt. Clarke’s past. You can catch up on all of last week’s action with our deep dive recap and review here.

TV Recap: American Soul – What Time Is It?

American Soul
“Just Us” (Episode 104)
February 19, 2019

Last week on American Soul: Don’s son made a cross country trip to make a play to live with his dad. In addition to family trouble, Don faced some challenges in booking talent, filtering out riff raff, and controlling his dance troupe. JT’s world is closing in when the cops get a name on the cop killing (from the jewelry heist gone wrong), Tessa and Don argue, a lot, and the dancers are unhappy about not getting paid.

Music Review: The Brussels Philharmonic – New York Debut, Live at Carnegie Hall

The Brussels Philharmonic
New York Debut – Live From Carnegie Hall
March 16,2019

On Saturday, March 16, 2019, I had the great opportunity to spend an evening with the Brussels Philharmonic, making their New York Debut at Carnegie Hall. It was a spectacular evening of high energy music performed flawlessly and with contagious enthusiasm and joy.

The conductor and music director, Stéphane Denève,  introduced the orchestra, explaining that it’s members comprise of 19 nationalities, based in the capital of Europe. This very cosmopolitan makeup reflects them being housed in the global hub that is Brussels (the capital of Belgium).

Founded in 1935, the Brussels Philharmonic “enjoys an excellent reputation for performing premieres of new works and has collaborated with world-renowned composers such as Bart6k, Stravinsky, Messiaen, and Francesconi. The orchestra’s historic home port is the Flagey building, where it rehearses and performs in Studio 4, in acoustic terms one of the top concert 7 halls in the world.” The orchestra has recorded music for popular films, including The Aviator and The Artist.

TV Recap – I Am The Night – We Know What Monsters Are …

I Am The Night
“Queen’s Gambit, Accepted” (Episode 106)
March 4, 2019

Last week on I Am The Night, Jay and Fauna made it to Hawaii and found Fauna’s mother, Tamar.  Annnnd Tamar is just as cray cray as she’s been portrayed all along but in fairness, how normal can you be when your Dad slept with you and you had his kid? It’s all very Jerry Springer … or maybe Maury should be involved? Consequently, Fauna is devastated by the news and feels betrayed by Jay because he knew the truth about her father all along. Jay is betrayed by Peter. And WTF is up with George? He traveled to Nevada to stab Jimmie Lee in a terrifying scene showing all his homicidal predilections. At the end of last week, we don’t know if Jimmie Lee is alive or dead.

Catch up on all of last week’s action-packed penultimate episode and deep dive recap here. Continue reading below for all the sordid details as we recap *sniff* the the final I Am The Night. BEWARE OF SPOILERS!!

TV Recap: I Am The Night – “Memento Quo Nunc Es”

I Am The Night
“Aloha” (Episode 105)
February 25, 2019

In Episode 4 of I Am The Night, major, major shit went down. By standing up to Jimmie Lee and striking a deal with Jay to get to Tamar in Hawaii, Fauna has (finally) decided to be an active participant in her own story. Sepp tried to kill Fauna and Jay skewered him for his troubles … with a wrench! Jay found an art gallery where the works were property of George Hodel and he was able to, in a spectacular piece of editing, musical composure, and acting, put together that George Hodel’s art matched crime scene photos from both Janis Brewster and Elizabeth Short, the infamous Black Dahlia murder.

TV Recap: I Am The Night – The Happening …

I Am The Night
“Matador” (Episode 104)
February 18, 2019

Last week on I Am The Night, Jay discovered (disgusting) similarities between the Janis Brewster case and the Black Dahlia murder. Unfortunately, Jay’s obsession with the Hodel case landed him in the slammer where the LAPD almost extracted an eye. Fauna did some light B&E in her step-grandma’s house, and realized the creepy dude from the Bus Stop rest area is her grandfather, George Hodel.  Jay and Fauna finally met and Sepp (f/k/a Mr. Black Car) really stepped up his creepy AF Factor!

TV Recap: I Am The Night – Gnothi Seauton …

I Am The Night
“Dark Flower” (Episode 103)
February 11, 2019

Last week’s episode introduced us to more characters playing into Fauna’s evolving definition of self. She has to grapple with the fact that she’s not black despite being raised as mixed race her whole life. We met her step-grandmother, Corinna Huntington, kinda like a breathy, arty, odder Mrs. Roper from Three’s Company. Fauna learns more about her new-found family from Corinna and even has a creepy encounter with the man stalking her for years and the man who we know as Dr. Hodel in an art gallery. Jay is spiraling back into the depths of the Hodel case again and getting himself deeper into the mire.
