Music News: Christie’s Auctions The David Gilmour Guitar Collection

When you hear “David Gilmour,” the phrase “rock god” should spring to mind. As guitarist and vocalist for the classic rock group, Pink Floyd, mere mention of his name should evoke in your mind clear, clean, lyrical and technically perfect guitar playing. Now, imagine being able to peruse Gilmour’s collection of guitars, one of the most extensive guitar collections in history, in person? Better yet, own one of David Gilmour’s guitars? This unique, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity is yours this week as Christie’s unveils The David Gilmour Collection. 

The David Gilmour Collection is on display now at Christie’s in NYC.  The exhibition runs from June 14-19 and is open to the public every day from 11am-4pm. Entry to the exhibition is free, however reservations are required and can be secured here. The Auction is scheduled for June 20, 2019 at 10:00am.  Christie’s NYC is located at 20 Rockefeller Plaza, New York, NY 10020. TV Recap: Catch-22 (Episode 4) – Sell Everything To Everyone …

In episode 3 of Catch-22, the story took a hard, bloody turn into darkness. Things are unraveling for Yossarian, and his increasingly unhinged actions are starting to have real and dire consequences for other people besides himself. When Yo-Yo makes the choice to illicitly move the mission bomb line to avoid the suicide bombing run to Bologna, the direct (and indirect) results include the disappearance (and probable death) of Major deCoverley, as well as the deaths of Kid  Sampson and McWatt. Life for Yossarian and his squadron peeps is coming apart fast and it’s probably only going to get worse. Catch up on all the details of the last episode with our deep dive recap and review here.

TV Recap: Catch-22 (Episode 2) – Who Is The Enemy?

Welcome back to the War.  In Episode 1 of Catch-22, we met our protagonist, John “Yo-Yo” Yossarian, and a peculiar cast of characters, stationed on the island of Pianosa, Italy during World War II. Yossarian is a bombardier in the Army Air Corps (the precursor to the Air Force being an independent branch of the military) and he’s terrified of dying. He’s terrified of dying and increasingly willing to do ANYTHING he can to get out of this war. However, the inscrutable commanders in charge of Yo-Yo and his friends aren’t quite ready to let them go home. At the end of Episode 1, John learns the meaning of a “Catch-22.”

Awesome Con 2019 featured a number of reunion panels that would make any Gen Xer squee with joy but having Cary Elwes and Chris Sarandon come together to talk The Princess Bride was simply delightful!

Elwes and Sarandon were as humble and as likable as you would imagine them to be during The Princess Bride Q&A Panel. After coming out on stage, and taking in the crowd, Elwes said, “this is bonkers.”  And he’s not wrong.  The room was chock-a-block with fans, evident when the co-stars of the 32-year-old movie earned raucous applause. The dedicated fan base was excited to see them and celebrate them and this beloved movie.

At Awesome Con 2019, Star Trek fans were treated to a reunion of cosmic proportions.  That’s right, 5 members of Star Trek: The Next Generation came out to relive some memories and chat with fans.  And PopCultureReview was there!!!

The Star Trek: The Next Generation Q&A Panel was a celebration of the iconic sci-fi show that spanned 7 seasons, from 1987 to 1994. The TNG cast members in attendance included Gates McFadden, Jonathan Frakes, Wil Wheaton, Marina Sirtis, and Brent Spiner.

When Ticketmaster sends you an alert that THE Tony Bennett is performing in your town, you run right out to catch that performance, no questions asked. Mr. Bennett was coming home to New York and we were going to be there for it! Our reward was that we got to spend an evening with an American icon and were treated to the most charming of evenings.

Spoilers, this evening was a pure delight from start to finish. If nothing else, Mr. Bennett is so genuine in his passion for his music and his desire to make sure the audience is enjoying themselves. And enjoy ourselves, we did.

On Saturday, April 27, 2019, John Barrowman arrived at Awesome Con 2019 and tore the roof off the place with his humor and irreverent style.  This was my first live John Barrowman experience and can I tell you, my sides still hurt from laughing. From his haranguing the ASL interpreters, to his high heels and snarky delivery, John Barrowman is someone not to be missed at events like this.
