“Six Short Stories About Magic”
February 28, 2018
The Magicians, never underestimate how they are going to deliver an episode to you or how they are going to make you feel all the goddamn feelings all the time. All the while feeding you Grade A+ television in ways and set ups you’ve never thought about before, but once you’ve seen it, you think, how can I ever live without with this show?!?
If “A Life in the Day” is the most emotionally moving thing you will see this year, “Six Short Stories About Magic” is hands down, the boldest hour of storytelling you will see this year. Its episodes like tonight, why its a no-brainer that Syfy renewed the show for a Season 4 earlier this week.
Our deep dive recap and review (spoilers, so many spoilers) begins … after the jump!

Lots of great dialogue exchanges tonight, not only between Kreizler and Miss Howard, but also with Roosevelt and Kreizler, and between Miss Howard and Moore punctuated a night of real progress in our case to find the Silver Smile Killer and dig deeper into who our favorite Alienist really is and what makes him tick. More on our thoughts after the recap at the bottom of this post.
Character development for the win!!
Without further delay, our deep dive recap of The Alienist‘s “Hildebrandt’s Starling” (spoilers – be warned) … after the jump!
“Do You Like Teeth?”
February 14, 2018
As a Valentine’s Day episode, this was horrible but as a normal installment of The Magicians, its everything you’re looking for from this show which continues to be on fire this season! Specifically, Felicia Day joins the show tonight and she’s amazing as the book fan favorite, Poppy. But like the Depression Monster, she’s also kind of a dick. Or at least a person of “questionable ethics” as she freely admits early in the episode.

The Alienist “These Bloody Thoughts”
February 12, 2018
This week, the onion was pulled back further on Laszlo and his backstory which makes the episode worth it all by itself, but, we also learned some important details on the Killer and his “how” … even if we’re not any closer to the all important, “why?!?”
Let’s not waste time unnecessarily though, the deep diver recap (beware: Spoilers!) follows … after the jump!
This week on The Alienist, we learned some interesting habits or traits of the killer but even more importantly, we learn some interesting back story on our eponymous character and see deeper aspects of every one our core three Team Alienist Members.
The mystery deepens and we hope you are sticking along for the ride.

Black Lightning “LaWanda: The Book of Burial”
January 30, 2018
Lots of forward momentum in tonight’s episode of Black Lightning, which is great. We finally have some back bone resolution from Jefferson while the sides of good and evil begin to square up against each other with some players, maybe, mired in the middle.
Separate from Jefferson, we get some good movement on Anissa’s character and some much needed realistic acceptance from Lynn. And on the bad guy front, we also get another layer of the evil onion pulled back.
Black Lightning is moving in the right direction and as long as it doesn’t get bogged down too much in the morality play, I think we’re all going to like the journey and the destination.

The Magicians “A Life in the Day”
February 7, 2018
For three seasons, The Magicians has been this little show that could; turning out great stories with interesting characters and whimsical plots but tonight, “A Life in the Day” pushes The Magicians into the pantheon of great television.
There is an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation called “Inner Light.” Its widely considered one of the best episodes TNG ever made and in it, the Enterprise’s captain, Jean Luc Picard, is knocked unconscious on the bridge and awakes on a planet. And, over the course of the episode, he lives a full life on that planet with a wife, children, grandchildren. He experiences highs and lows and all the pain and joy of living. And when he wakes back on the Enterprise, he retains all of those memories and it changes him ever after. Changes him in ways that are tangible and intangible.
“A Life in the Day” is The Magicians‘ “Inner Light” and we have all been changed … changed for the better.
