As promised a couple of days ago, Lionsgate dropped the first long trailer for the much anticipated, John Wick: Chapter 3. The third movie in the cult favorite franchise premieres on May 17, 2019. This is the first in the series to have a subtitle, “Parabellum.”

The third installment features Keanu Reeves returning to the titular role of John Wick, the reluctant master assassin that wanted out but keeps getting pulled back in. From the trailer, it looks like the core cast of Ian McShane, Laurence Fishburne, and Lance Reddick are all returning for the new movie. Movie News: PCR’s Top 5 Favorite Movies of 2018!

PopCultureReview’s Top 5 Favorite Movies of 2018
Best of 2018 Lists
December 17, 2018

It’s the time of the year when people start thinking about the year that (almost) was and what their favorite things were (and not so favorite if you’re so inclined). PopCultureReview is not immune from these musings.

Over the next few days, we’ll be rolling out our “Best Of 2018” Lists and we are starting with our five favorite movies of 2018. Why five? Well, it really stems from the TV list which I need to physically restrain myself from adding all the ones I love. Three seems too little and ten, too many.

Now, remember, these are not necessarily the five BEST movies of 2018, but rather, our Top Five Favorite.

So, here is the list of PopCultureReview’s top five favorite movies … after the jump!

This morning, the Russo Brothers, directors of Avengers: Infinity War, released the trailer (and hence title) for the upcoming Avengers 4 on their Twitter account.

The movie, titled Avengers: Endgame, will release on Friday, April 26, 2019.

In a week that already dropped the latest trailer for Captain Marvel, this trailer was one of the most hotly awaited items in the superhero universe. It comes about a week later than the same type of trailer we waited for last year for Avengers: Infinity War.

Movie Recap: The 25 Days of Hallmark

“Life lies at the end of your comfort zone.” I KNOW I heard that somewhere. For all I know, that’s the slogan for some low-fare airline promising cheap vacations in paradise… or maybe I saw it online about a Zumba class? Or trying to get someone to go back to school? I mean, I could probably google it- it’s a good line. But I’m already making myself write this series of articles so even if it was Hillary Rodham Clinton herself, it’s not REALLY making this task I’ve arbitrarily set myself any easier.

You don’t know me … probably, but I’m a huge fan of Broadway- especially of one Ms. Patti Murin- star of Broadway’s Frozen, lover of dogs, Tweeter of all things Bachelor/Bachelorette (which I have never watched), and, most recently- Obsessor of all things Hallmark Christmas movies.

Movie Review: The Greatest Showman – “Something Sensational”

The Greatest Showman

A few nights ago, in the middle of a random chat with two good friends, Kayla  and Beth (@kfink12 and @randombeth, respectively – follow them on Twitter, they’re awesome), it came out that I had not seen The Greatest Showman. I missed it in the theaters because … life, and I hadn’t watched it online yet. I was vaguely familiar with “This Is Me” and the soundtrack in general but mostly, no idea. On their recommendation, I rented and it was hooked in seconds. I was enamored with this fucking movie from that first Thump and I am so happy that I listened to them, its made my life better.

The Greatest Showman is officially described as a drama/romance but really its musical fantasy; an hour and forty five minute escapist adventure where you will be enveloped in visual and aural spectacle with only a few chances to catch your breath.  “They don’t understand but they will.”  The eponymous Greatest Showman, one Phineas T. Barnum, say this line to one of the curiosities he is recruiting for his show but it works as well for a summary of the film as a whole.

Before the movie begins, you think you’re going to get some goofy songs and Wolverine in old-timey clothes. What you actually get, though, is a life experience that will stay with you.  This is not hyperbole.  The Greatest Showman is going to work its way into your heart and mind and take up toe tapping residence there. My advice? Just give in, its worth the surrender.

Released on December 20, 2017, The Greatest Showman comes from first time director Michael Gracey and writers, Jenny Bicks and Bill Condon (Chicago, Dreamgirls). The music and lyrics for the impressive soundtrack come from current “it” boys, by Benj Pasek & Justin Paul (La La Land) while Ashley Wallen provided the immense choreography.  On the acting front, Hugh Jackman, Michelle Williams, Zac Efron, Zendaya, Keala Settle, and Rebecca Ferguson lead a sprawling cast that spend almost two hours singing, dancing, and emoting their ways into your heart.
