What To Watch Tonight? Who would think that late Summer TV would be so jammed back with high quality options. But, that’s where we are. Tonight’s big entry, and our Top Pick To Watch, is the much anticipated series premiere of HBO’s new  dramedy from Danny McBride, The Righteous Gemstones. Also, all new Preacher and Succession. 8pm Hour:

1st Choice: The Rook. “Myfanwy and Farrier quickly discover how dangerous life is outside of the Checquy, while Grantchester runs out of options. Myfanwy chooses between her freedom and Farrie’s life.” Starz

2nd Choice: The Manners of  Downton Abbey. “How “Downton Abbey” re-creates the etiquette of Edwardian-era England, featuring its historical adviser, Alastair Bruce; and Hugh Bonneville, Michelle Dockery, Laura Carmichael, Elizabeth McGovern, Brendan Coyle, Joanne Froggatt and Lily James. Included: scenes from throughout the series are used to show the proper way to eat, marry, behave, dress, and make money.” PBS

3rd Choice: Evil Lives Here. “Clare Bradburn thought she finally had justice when her ex-husband Ed confessed to his crime after 26 years, but the nightmare she had been living for decades just continued.” ID

1st Choice: Succession. “Roman (Kieran Culkin) and Kendall (Jeremy Strong) do a “routine health check” of a new media brand to help Vaulter to determine the future of the company. Tom (Matthew Macfadyen) tasks Greg (Nicholas Braun) with sniffing out waste at ATN, as Greg wonders if the divisive media outlet is the right fit for him. Connor (Alan Ruck) and Willa (Justine Lupe) host a soiree to mark their return to New York. Shiv (Sarah Snook) brings Tom in the loop about her future at Waystar and with Gil’s (Eric Bogosian) campaign.” HBO

2nd Choice: Downton Abbey Live! “A celebration of “Downton Abbey” and also a preview of the feature film. Included: behind-the-scenes stories.” PBS

3rd Choice: Fear the Walking Dead. “Morgan and Grace search an abandoned shopping mall for supplies and to fulfill a dying man’s wish. There, the mission quickly turns to a fight for survival. Meanwhile, Dwight’s resolve to be a better man is tested.” AMC

10pm Hour:

1st Choice:  The Righteous Gemstones. Series Premiere. “Upon returning from a baptism marathon in China with his father Eli (John Goodman) and brother Kelvin (Adam Devine), Jesse Gemstone (Danny McBride) receives a video from blackmailers seeking to sully his reputation. Eli moves forward with plans to expand the Gemstone empire as he continues to mourn his late wife Aimee-Leigh (Jennifer Nettles).” HBO

2nd Choice:  Preacher. “Tulip forges an unexpected alliance to plumb Masada’s dungeons and free whatever remains of Cassidy. Meanwhile, Jesse’s mission to Australia may be over before it’s even started as he finds himself stranded.” AMC
