2018 San Diego Comic Con
Day 3 (July 21, 2018)
At this year’s San Diego Comic Con, we got a chance to speak with The Magicians‘ very own Summer Bishil (she plays Margo Hanson, the current High King of Fillory and the show’s resident sassy badass). In the interview, Summer talked about a wide range of issues including Season 4, her new alter ego of “Janet,” and what it’s like as an actor dealing with the weighty issues the show portrays.
After the jump, check out transcribed excerpts from the interview with Summer, as well as video of the full interview!
“So, it’s always interesting on The Magicians …”- Summer Bishil
On being an actor on a show like The Magicians:
“It’s never just a job on The Magicians. That’s the cool thing. You can’t get lazy. You literally cannot phone it in or do your “shtick.” Like you probably could on some other show, I don’t know that don’t move as quickly or involve this sort of tone. You kind of have to be present, and at all times, to just understand tonally how the scene should play.”
On dealing with the heavy issues Margo faced in Season 3:
“I love dealing with those issues, though. Like that’s part of what makes this show tick, is that there are these strong characters that have been fleshed out and developed and intriguing. That are confronted with very real world issues that have very real consequences. But, we also have magic! And it’s also kooky and crazy and fun. And, I think part of what makes the kooky crazy work, is that we have these hard scenes. What keeps it interesting as an actor is I can kind of fluctuate between genres if I want, on any given day at work.”
