The CW Renews Additional Series
The CW
April 23, 2019
Back in January, during the 2019 TCA Winter Press Tour, The CW announced renewals for most of its older series as well as two Freshmen shows (Charmed, Legacies) but its other new shows were left in limbo. Well, limbo no more my friends, we now know their fate!
On April 23, 2019, The CW President, Mark Pedowitz, announced that All American, In the Dark, and Roswell, New Mexico had each been renewed for a Season 2 and The 100 had been renewed for Season 7. This announcement means that all five Freshmen shows from this current season have been renewed for a second season.
From the official press release, Pedowitz is quoted as saying, “As we begin to plan for the 2019-2020 season, we’re thrilled to have this roster of 14 exceptionally creative and distinctive series, including all five first year shows, as the foundation on which to continue to build the multiplatform future of The CW.”
This news comes as a relief (and surprise) to fans of several of the new shows, most notably All American, which never broke out in ratings despite telling important social stories in a thoughtful and nuanced way. Readers of PCR know that we are BIG on All American (check out our coverage here). Reportedly, All American picked up a much larger fan base once Season 1 was made available for streaming on Netflix.
