Day 1 (July 19, 2018)
At this year’s San Diego Comic Con, we got a chance to speak with Eline Powell, Alex Roe, and Fola Evans-Akingbola, the stars of the Freeform hit series, Siren. The cast spoke on a range of issues including their characters growth in Season 1, hopes for their (complicated) relationships in Season 2 and their love of water.

On their prior swimming and diving knowledge before filming began …
Eline: “I completely, accidentally, booked a film where I played a Siren. So I actually had to learn a bit about SCUBA. It wasn’t as intense as this but I got to know the water a bit and I fell in love with it. Loved it, so much. So I had a little bit of a water relationship before I came.”
Alex: “I’m always in the water. I like to surf a lot so when I’m in California, I’m in the water all the time. I love it. Not necessarily as much underneath the water … ideally, although I do get tossed around.”
On the entangled relationships in Season 2 …
Alex and Fola: “It’s complicated.”
Eline: “At this time, we know as much as you. Well, almost as much as you. But I think we have an amazing, amazing, connection that was growing during Season 1.”
Alex: “Some beautiful moments between you two [points to Eline and Fola].”
Fola: “Each set as it’s own individual dynamic and the group dynamic.”
Eline: “It’s such a pity that it had to crumble at the end because of circumstances, so maybe, I’m hoping Season 2 allows each character maybe to settle down in their own situation so that connection can be reignited. Perhaps we grow even closer.”
On Maddie’s journey in Season 1 …
Fola: “I think Maddie’s very quickly learned that she can’t control everything; you can’t be on top of everything. I think she has perfectionist tendencies to be in control. And she’s quickly learned that that’s not possible in life. Yeah, I think that’s her journey.”
Eline: “What do you hope for Season 2?”
Fola: “More Mermaids!”
