Wednesday nights are going to be a great place for 10pm television for the foreseeable future. With the series premiere of Reverie tonight and the ongoing seasons of Colony and Six, there is plenty to watch in that space. Also tonight, the series finale of The Americans.
Earlier in the night, we tread water with some light Summer TV fare, the season premieres of American Ninja Warrior and MasterChef. But really, its all about getting to 10pm.
8pm Hour:
1st Choice: American Ninja Warrior. “Season 10 opens in Dallas, Texas, with a qualifying round that features six obstacles, including the new 18-foot “Mega Warped Wall,” which, if conquered, offers a chance to win $10,000. Notable Dallas ninjas include Daniel Gil, Brent Steffensen and Barclay Stockett.” NBC
2nd Choice: The Handmaid’s Tale. “An incident sends shockwaves through both Gilead and Little America. Serena Joy makes a dangerous choice in order to protect her family. Moira searches for someone from her past.” Hulu
3rd Choice: MasterChef. “Part 1 of 2. The Season 9 premiere: Forty-three of America’s finest home cooks compete in the Battle of the Apron challenge, during which they will face off against each other to earn a spot in the Top 24. This season brings a new twist: Judges Gordon Ramsay, Aarón Sánchez and Joe Bastianich each will have eight aprons to hand out to the home cooks whom they deem worthy.” Fox
9pm Hour:
1st Choice: American Ninja Warrior. Continues on NBC.
2nd Choice: The Expanse. Last week, this was a dead show walking, this week? Its been saved by Amazon for another season. Huzzah! “An old friend taunts Holden with the answers he seeks; Naomi struggles to fit in; and a mysterious low-level tech aboard the Thomas Prince enacts a terrifying plan.” Syfy
