On Mina’s struggle to make change while working at Roxxon …

“The thing with Mina is, although she’s working for Roxxon, she’s still fighting the fight. You saw in Episode 6, when she’s dealing with Stan, she’s dealing with people that are taking the shortcuts, you’re seeing the ways they’re going for the money as opposed to what it is actually good, and what is actually right. And Mina’s right up in there, in the trenches. Having to fight against the mansplaining and the cutting the corners route. So she’s fighting her own battles deep within the company. I think at the end of the day, she really just wants to create change.”

On creating a new Asian-American character in the Marvel Universe …

“I think it was such a joint effort.  And what was cool was that Jenny Klein, who’s our writer, I mean she is truly the heart and soul and spirit of the character. All the Bee Arthur stuff, all the environmental aspects, are all things she truly cares and loves and is passionate about. So from the get, as soon as I got to New Orleans, she was sending me e-mail inbox things about, like, do you know how to crack an egg with one hand?, start listening to these playlists, learning French and all these things. So I like to say she brought the science and I brought the heart.  And together, we had so many cry sessions all the time about things we were passionate about. She’d tell me about the environmental issues she cared about. I’d tell her about Asian-American representation and how much it means to me to play this character. So, I think it was a true joint effort.”
